It helps to include your iPhone model, your iOS version and what you tapped. Please don't send photos you'd rather keep private; a description is enough.

Getting started

What does Sorta need?

An iPhone with iOS 26 or later and access to your Photos library. Everything is read on your iPhone; nothing is uploaded.

Sorta only sees some of my photos

You probably chose "Limit Access" when Sorta asked. To let it sort everything, open Settings › Apps › Sorta › Photos and choose Full Access, or tap Change on the banner at the top of Sorta.

I said no to Photos access

Open Sorta and tap Turn on Photos access. It takes you straight to Sorta's page in Settings.

Sorting

Why is it still sorting?

Sorta shows your drawers after reading your most recent screenshots and photos, then keeps reading the rest while the app is open ("Still sorting" at the bottom of the list). A library of tens of thousands of items can take a few minutes the first time. After that, only new screenshots and photos are read. If you leave the app, it carries on next time you open it.

What does "Taking a closer look" mean?

On iPhones with Apple Intelligence turned on, Apple's on-device model has a second look at screenshots that landed in Everything Else. It runs on your iPhone, once per screenshot.

Something is in the wrong drawer

Open the drawer, tap Select, pick the items and move them to another drawer. Sorta remembers your choice. You can also open a screenshot and move it from there.

Can I turn the drawers into albums?

Yes. On the Sort tab, tap ⋯ › Save drawers as albums. Sorta creates albums named "Sorta · Receipts", "Sorta · Travel & Tickets" and so on in the Photos app.

How do I start over?

Tap ⋯ › Sort again from scratch, or open Settings in Sorta and tap Forget sorting results. This clears what Sorta has read. Your photos are not touched.

Safe to delete

Why is (or isn't) a screenshot on the card?

Sorta only suggests screenshots that are clearly done: one-time sign-in codes older than a day, tickets and boarding passes whose date has passed, "delivered" parcel screens after two weeks, and finished rides. It's careful on purpose, so some old screenshots won't be on the card. Tap Review to see each one before clearing, and Select to keep any of them.

How do I get back something I deleted?

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Scroll to Utilities and open Recently Deleted (unlock with Face ID or your passcode).
  3. Tap Select, choose the items, then tap Recover.

Deleted items stay there for 30 days. Space is only freed for good once they're gone from Recently Deleted.

Duplicates

What counts as a double?

Exact copies are the same photo saved more than once. Lookalikes are photos taken seconds apart that look almost the same. In each set, Sorta keeps the best one (your favourites first, then the best-looking and largest) and selects the rest. Tap any photo to keep or drop it, or hold it to look closer.

The best one isn't the one I'd keep

Tap it to keep it, and tap the one you don't want to drop it. Or tap Keep all for that set.

Sorta Unlimited

What's free, and what does Unlimited add?

Free sorts your 100 most recent photos, screenshots and videos and cleans 2 sets of duplicates. Sorta Unlimited is a one-time purchase that sorts your whole library and cleans every duplicate. There's no subscription.

I bought Unlimited on another iPhone

Open Sorta › ⋯ › Settings and tap Restore purchase, signed in with the same Apple Account. With Family Sharing on, your family gets it too.

Refunds

Purchases are handled by Apple. You can ask for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Sorta collects no data. What it has read stays in the app on your iPhone and is erased when you tap Forget sorting results or delete the app. Read the full privacy policy.
