Privacy Policy
Sorta sorts your photos, screenshots and videos on your iPhone. We don't collect, store, sell or share any of your data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server.
Sorta ("the app") is published by DIGCY SARL AU ("DIGCY", "we"), 23 Rue Boured, Etage 03, N°5, Roches Noires, Casablanca, Morocco. This policy covers the Sorta iPhone app and this website, sorta.digcy.com.
The short version
Your photos and screenshots never leave your iPhone because of Sorta. What the app learns about them (the text on a screenshot, what's in a photo, which photos look alike) is kept only on your iPhone, inside the app, and is removed when you delete the app.
Access to your photo library
Sorta asks for access to your Photos library because sorting it is the whole point of the app. You can give full access, choose only some photos (limited access), or say no. You can change this at any time in Settings › Apps › Sorta › Photos.
With access, Sorta uses it to:
- Read the text on screenshots with Apple's on-device text recognition, to put each one in a drawer (for example Travel & Tickets or Money & Receipts) and to spot screenshots that are safe to delete.
- Recognise what's in photos (for example people, pets, food or landscapes) with Apple's on-device image recognition, and count faces, to put each photo in a drawer. Sorta doesn't identify who anyone is.
- Compare photos with small on-device fingerprints, to find exact copies and photos taken moments apart that look alike.
- Read file sizes and dates, to show how much space a drawer takes and how much you get back.
Apple Intelligence
On iPhones with Apple Intelligence turned on, Sorta asks Apple's on-device language model to take a second look at the text of screenshots that its own rules couldn't place. This model runs on your iPhone. Sorta doesn't send that text anywhere.
iCloud Photos
If you use iCloud Photos with "Optimize iPhone Storage", some originals may only be in iCloud. Sorta uses the copies already on your iPhone, and only asks Photos to download a screenshot from your iCloud when it needs to read its text. That download happens between your iPhone and Apple, under your own iCloud account. Sorta never sees your Apple Account details.
What Sorta stores on your iPhone
To avoid reading the same photos again, Sorta keeps a small cache inside the app: the text read from screenshots, the labels found in photos, photo fingerprints, file sizes, the drawer each item is in and any moves you made. It stays on your iPhone and isn't included in anything we can access. You can erase it in Sorta › Settings › Forget sorting results, and it's removed when you delete the app.
Changes to your library
Sorta only changes your library when you ask it to:
- Deleting (clearing "Safe to delete", deleting duplicates or selected items) always goes through the iPhone's own confirmation. Deleted items go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app, where you can recover them for 30 days.
- Saving drawers as albums creates albums named "Sorta · …" in your library.
What we collect
Nothing. Sorta has no account, no analytics or advertising SDKs, no tracking, and no server of its own. We never receive your photos, the text on them or anything learned about them. On the App Store, Sorta's privacy label is "Data Not Collected".
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may share anonymous crash reports and usage statistics with us under Apple's own privacy policy. We only use them to fix bugs.
Purchases
Sorta Unlimited is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your name, Apple Account, card or payment details. The app only checks with Apple whether this purchase belongs to your Apple Account.
Sharing, ratings and links
Sharing a screenshot or text from Sorta uses the iPhone's share sheet, and you choose where it goes. "Rate Sorta" uses Apple's rating prompt. Links in the app open this website or your mail app.
This website
sorta.digcy.com uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. It's hosted by Vercel, whose servers, like any web server, briefly process your IP address to deliver the pages. If you email us, we use your email only to reply.
Children
Sorta is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. Everything Sorta keeps is on your iPhone, under your control. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or Moroccan law 09-08), you have rights over your personal data; you can contact us about them at any time.
Changes
If Sorta's practices change, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
